Navoiy Region is located in the central and northwestern part of Uzbekistan and covers a vast area, much of which lies within the Kyzylkum Desert. This location makes the region a transition zone between the country’s better-developed historic centers and its sparsely populated desert areas.

The administrative center is the city of Navoiy, one of Uzbekistan’s major industrial hubs. Other important settlements include Zarafshan, Uchkuduk, Nurata, and Kyzyltepa. The climate is sharply continental and dry: summers are very hot, while winters can be cold, especially in the open desert areas. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are more comfortable for sightseeing, desert excursions, and trips to the mountains without extreme heat.
