Lara beach district in Antalya

Lara is an urban district within Antalya, located on the city’s eastern coastline inside the Muratpaşa municipality. It is not a separate resort but a modern residential and recreational zone developed along the coastal cliffs. There is little historic architecture here — the area grew mainly in the second half of the 20th century and today is known for panoramic bay views, parkland and city facilities.

Lara lies east of Antalya’s old town and borders the coastal escarpments. The main city arteries — Eski Lara Street, Tekelioğlu Street and Bülent Ecevit Boulevard — link the district with the city centre, the airport and the main road toward Alanya. Tram lines do not run along Lara’s shoreline, so buses and taxis are the most convenient options; the road network also provides quick access to the coastal highway.

The urban fabric stretches along the cliffs with a string of viewpoints and park sections. Within the district are Düden Park with the Lower Düden Waterfall, and extended green areas along the cliff edge with walking paths and access to equipped sea platforms. Architecturally, Lara is dominated by contemporary residential blocks, shopping centres and cafés lining the main streets and the seaside terraces.

Lara

Lara’s cliff coast and the Lower Düden Waterfall

The main natural highlight in Lara is the Lower Düden Waterfall in Düden Park, where the river drops over a rocky ledge into the sea; viewing platforms and footpaths have been installed around the falls. For city walks and shopping the area offers the Terracity and Shemall malls, while Eski Lara Street is lined with cafés and services alternating with descents to the sea and terraces overlooking the coast. The district’s urban character is emphasised by the modern Fener and Şirinyalı neighbourhoods, both offering easy access to the cliffline.

Green zones along the cliffs include Lara Kent Park and a chain of coastal stretches with views across the bay and, on clear days, the Taurus Mountains. In several places the municipality has built platforms for swimming with steps down to the water — these open seasonally and are complemented by promenades and bike paths along the cliff tops. East of the waterfall the cliffs gradually give way to sandy stretches, and beyond Lara lies the hotel area of Kundu, a useful orientation point for the district limits.

Lara has many city hotels and apartment hotels, plus cafés and restaurants along the main streets; overall the price level is aimed at a mid-range urban market. The district is easily reached by city buses from Antalya centre and the airport — routes run along Eski Lara Street, Bülent Ecevit Boulevard and Tekelioğlu Street — while by car the Antalya–Alanya coastal road provides convenient access. To the west Lara adjoins the areas around Kaleiçi, and to the east it borders Kundu.
