Hidirlik Hill is located to the south of the historic part of Safranbolu and is considered one of the city's best-known viewpoints. From its summit, there are clear views of neighborhoods with traditional Ottoman architecture, thanks to which Safranbolu received UNESCO World Heritage status. It is a convenient place to see the layout of the old town and its characteristic houses with tiled roofs.
Historically, the hill was connected with the religious life of the city. In the past, collective open-air prayers were held here, and two prayer platforms remain on the site, recalling this tradition. Because of this, Hidirlik is interesting not only as a viewpoint, but also as a place connected with the everyday history of Safranbolu.
On the slopes of the hill there are burials and memorial sites, including the mausoleum of Hasan Pasha, as well as the graves of Hidir Pasha and Ali Yaver Ataman. These monuments make a walk around Hidirlik more meaningful and allow visitors to better understand how the city panorama, local memory, and historic setting are intertwined in Safranbolu.
For tourists, the hill is primarily interesting as a peaceful point from which to get acquainted with the city from above. From here, visitors can observe the old streets, the dense development of the valley, and the buildings on the neighboring slopes, including the former governor's residence, which is now used as the Safranbolu Cultural Center.
