Hisorak Reservoir
Hisorak Reservoir in Shahrisabz, Uzbekistan
Hisorak Reservoir is located in the mountainous area around Shahrisabz, among the ridges of the Gissar mountain system in the Qashqadaryo Region of Uzbekistan. It is a large body of water surrounded by slopes and winding roads, and it is often included in routes leading toward passes and high-mountain areas of the region.
For tourists, Hisorak is primarily interesting for its mountain panoramas, the contrast between the water and the dry slopes, as well as the opportunity to see a less urban, more natural landscape of southern Uzbekistan. People usually come here for a short stop, for photographs, views of the surroundings, and a rest during the journey.
It is better to plan the trip in advance: infrastructure near the reservoir is limited, and the access route runs along mountain roads with bends and changes in elevation. During the hot season, open areas can be very warm, so it is worth bringing water, a hat, and taking travel time into account.
Swimming and approaching the water require caution, since the shoreline and conditions around the reservoir may vary, and there are few equipped recreation areas. Hisorak is suitable for those who want to see a mountain landscape beyond the center of Shahrisabz and combine a drive through the surrounding area with a stop in nature.

Visitors usually stop at viewpoints and sections of the road that offer a wide view of the water, the slopes, and the mountain lines on the horizon. Depending on the season, the water level and the shade of the surface can change noticeably, so the landscape looks different at different times of the year.
The main format of a visit is a short walk, a photo stop, and a rest on the way. The place is only limitedly prepared for a long stay: there is little shade, few organized services, and in some sections the shore can be rocky or inconvenient for descent. If you are planning a stop during the day, it is useful to arrive in the morning or closer to evening, when the heat is less intense.
It is important to be cautious near the water: it is not safe to approach the shore everywhere, and swimming can be risky because of the depth, the condition of the bottom, and the lack of equipped areas. For a family trip or an independent route, it is better to think in advance about a supply of water, a snack, and the return journey, especially if you are traveling without a local driver.
A trip to Hisorak is often combined with sightseeing in Shahrisabz and its historical monuments, as well as with routes along mountain roads toward the passes. People usually get here from Shahrisabz by car, since public transport in such directions is less convenient and depends on local conditions.
