Kashkadarya Region

Kashkadarya Region is located in southern Uzbekistan and combines wide plains, fertile valleys and mountain ranges. The region stretches from low-lying oases to the foothills, where landscapes and rural scenery change.

The administrative center is the city of Karshi, and the outstanding historical gem is considered Shakhrisabz — the birthplace of Timur with impressive architectural monuments. The region also has many small towns and district centers where traditional crafts and rural life are preserved.

Kashkadarya Region and its most famous attraction — Shakhrisabz

The historic center of Shakhrisabz is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and attracts with monumental remains of the Ak-Saray palace, mausoleums and mosques of the 15th century. Architectural fragments and decorative ceramics give an idea of the scale of Timurid culture.

The region retains museums and archaeological exhibits, including regional local history collections in Karshi and small exhibitions in district centers dedicated to rural life, crafts and the history of sericulture and viticulture.

Natural corners of the region include foothills, the Kashkadarya River and picturesque valleys where walking, nature photography and birdwatching are possible. In the Kitab area there are geological and paleontological sites interesting to lovers of the natural sciences.
