Old Harbor

Old Harbor in Kaleici, Antalya, Turkey

The Old Harbor is located in the Kaleici district, in the historic center of Antalya, at the foot of the rocky shore. It is one of the most recognizable parts of the old town: a natural bay with piers, boats, and access to the Mediterranean Sea. The site is easy to combine with a walk through the narrow streets of Kaleici and a look at the city's Ottoman-era buildings.

The harbor is connected to the early history of Antalya, which grew around the ancient port. The outlines of the protected bay are still clearly visible here, and sections of old fortifications have been preserved on the slopes above the water. The stone walls and lines of the piers help convey the role the port played in the life of the city over many centuries.

Today, the Old Harbor is used as a marina for pleasure yachts, excursion boats, and small private vessels. You can walk along the waterfront, look out at the sea, the cliffs, and the facades of houses rising up the slope toward Kaleici. Short boat trips along the Antalya coast also depart from here.

For tourists, this place is interesting for its combination of a historic setting and a working harbor. People come here not only for the boats and water views, but also to see how the old urban landscape, defensive walls, and traditional low-rise buildings have been preserved in the center of modern Antalya.

Old Harbor

Stone bay beneath the walls of the old town

Below, by the water, you can see piers with excursion boats, fishing boats, and small yachts. From the sea side, the high cliffs on which Kaleici stands are especially noticeable, while from the shore there are views of the curve of the bay and the stone fortifications. In some places, antique cannons are displayed as historical exhibits.

The Old Harbor is suitable for a peaceful walk at any time of day. Here you can go down to the water, sit in the waterfront area, watch the movement of the boats, or choose a short boat excursion along the coastline. On the upper streets above the harbor, there are cafes, terraces, and small hotels built into the historic fabric of the district.

Nearby are Hadrian's Gate, the Yivli Minaret, and the viewpoints of Kaleici, from which the harbor is clearly visible from above. The most convenient way to get here is on foot from central Antalya or by tram to the stops near Kaleici, after which you need to walk down through the streets of the old town to the bay.
