The Tombs of the Pontic Kings are located on the slope of a rock above the center of Amasya, on the northern side of the Yesilirmak River valley. This is one of the city's most striking historical landmarks: large burial chambers are carved directly into the limestone and are clearly visible from the waterfront, bridges, and streets of the old town.
The complex is usually dated to the Hellenistic period, approximately the 3rd-1st centuries BC. The tombs are associated with the rulers of the Kingdom of Pontus, for which Amasya was an important early political center. The monumental facades, entrances to the burial chambers, and location high above the city emphasize the status of these burials.

When exploring, it is worth keeping in mind that the terrain here is steep, and some sections may require comfortable footwear and a steady pace.
Many travelers combine this place with a visit to Amasya Castle, a walk along the waterfront, and viewing the traditional houses on the opposite bank. In the lower part of the city, it is also convenient to observe the tombs from a distance if you do not wish to climb the slope.
The easiest way to get there is on foot from the center of Amasya: from the waterfront and historic quarters, the route takes little time, and the entrance to the paths is usually located not far from the main walking routes through the old town.
