Tours, hotels and attractions in Cesme, Turkey
Cesme
Cesme is located at the westernmost tip of Turkey, in the Aegean region, on a picturesque cape directly opposite the Greek island of Chios. The town is about 80-90 km from Izmir and is easily reached along the coast, making it a convenient starting point for short coastal trips around the region.
Historically, Cesme has been known for a long time - the Battle of Chesme took place nearby in 1770, and in the old part of town you can still see traces of the Ottoman and earlier past. The fortress in the harbor and the narrow streets of the old town preserve the atmosphere of a port settlement where maritime history and trading traditions meet.
Today Cesme is viewed primarily as an upscale seaside resort with well-developed tourist infrastructure - marinas, boutique hotels, spas and restaurants. Tourism here is diverse: beach holidays, yachting and charter trips, wellness programs, as well as cultural and gastronomic excursions around the area.
Visitors are especially interested in several key parts of the town: the old town with its harbor promenade, the marina with modern berths, Ilica Beach with its long sandy shoreline, and the nearby Alacati district with traditional stone buildings. Each area offers its own range of activities - from strolls along the waterfront to relaxing spa breaks.
Cesme is convenient to include in a larger Aegean itinerary; the nearest international airport - Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport - is about 1-1.5 hours away by car. In addition, ferries and private excursion boats regularly depart from the harbor to the Greek islands and along the coastal bays.
The climate is Mediterranean, with hot dry summers and mild wet winters. The best time to visit depends on your plans - May-June and September-early October are good for sightseeing and boat trips; the peak resort season is July-August.

Cesme and Cesme Castle
Cesme Castle dominates the old harbor and is one of the city's main attractions. Inside the castle there is an archaeological museum exhibiting finds from coastal settlements and materials related to the region's naval history. From the castle walls, visitors get panoramic views of the marina and the open Aegean Sea.
Alacati, within walking distance of Cesme, attracts lovers of architecture and leisurely walks along cobbled streets. There are many galleries, craft workshops and small boutiques, and the old stone houses have been transformed into cozy guesthouses and design cafes. Weekly markets and fairs let you buy local products and handmade souvenirs.
For those who prefer active recreation, there are boat trips to picturesque bays, underwater dives near cliffs and wrecks, as well as fishing and yacht excursions with stops for swimming. Day trips to Chios allow you to combine a beach day with a visit to the neighboring Greek island.
Wellness services play an important role in Cesme's tourist offering: the town and its surroundings have spas and traditional Turkish baths that use local mineral waters and treatments to relax after a day in the sun. Local cuisine relies on fresh seafood, seasonal vegetables and light Aegean dishes made with olive oil and herbs.
The best time to visit attractions and enjoy comfortable walks around town is late spring and early autumn, when temperatures are moderate and there are fewer tourists; however, the summer months are ideal for boat trips and a lively resort atmosphere.
