Aegean Region
The Aegean Region of Turkey is located along the coast of the Aegean Sea and combines a rich ancient history with picturesque natural landscapes. It features fertile plains, hills and mountain ranges that create a contrast between the rural hinterland and the seashore.
The region is known for its ancient cities and archaeological monuments: ruins of ancient cities are preserved in Izmir and its surroundings, and the coast is dotted with port and resort towns. Major cities of the region include Izmir, Aydın, Denizli, Manisa and Muğla, around which cultural and beach destinations have developed.
The landscape ranges from the limestone terraces of Pamukkale and lake valleys to rocky coasts and long sandy beaches. Inland areas are covered with olive groves and vineyards, while the coastal zones attract sailing and sea excursion enthusiasts.
The region's climate is predominantly Mediterranean: hot dry summers and mild rainy winters. The best time to visit is spring and autumn for excursions to archaeological sites, and summer for beach holidays.
The Aegean Region is attractive for a variety of tourism: historical and cultural tours of ancient excavations, nature routes through national parks, sea and family beach programs, as well as wellness and gastronomic trips.
Areas deserving attention include the Bodrum peninsula, the resort town of Kuşadası, the quiet village of Şirince and the historic site of Troy in the north of the region.

The region is rich in key attractions: ancient Ephesus with its well-preserved theater and the Library of Celsus, the ruins of Troy with archaeological layers, and the Pamukkale terraces with the ancient city of Hierapolis, all listed by UNESCO.
Natural parks and protected areas, such as Dilek National Park on the coast near Kuşadası and the mountain ranges Ordubad and Aydın, offer hiking trails, birdwatching and peaceful lake landscapes, while the coastal bays are known for crystal-clear water and diving opportunities.
Historical towns and museums complete the picture: Bodrum Castle and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, the Archaeological Museum of Izmir, the museums of Ephesus and walks through old quarters with traditional architecture. The region is also known for seasonal festivals of music, crafts and the olive and fig harvest.
Local cuisine reflects the coastal character of the region: dishes based on olive oil, fresh seafood, a variety of mezes, homemade cheeses and sweet desserts made from figs and honey. Cooking traditions and family meals remain an important part of local culture.
It is convenient to reach the region by air and land routes: Adnan Menderes International Airport in Izmir, airports in Denizli and Bodrum, a developed network of bus connections and ferry links with the coastal islands make the region accessible to tourists.
