Datca Travel Guide
Datca, Marmaris
Datca is a coastal district of Marmaris in Turkey's Aegean Region. It sits on the Datca Peninsula, around 70 km west of Marmaris, between shores facing the Aegean and the Mediterranean. The landscape is hilly and spread out, with a low-rise townscape, a harbor area, and older village quarters.
Datca is known for a quieter coastal atmosphere than the main resort areas around Marmaris, and is often chosen for holidays centered on sea views, short walks, and a slower pace. Visitors use Datca town as a base for beaches and coves, including Kargi Bay, as well as Old Datca with its stone houses and narrow lanes. Knidos Ancient City, at the western end of the peninsula, is the area's best-known historical site, visited for its ruins and its importance as an ancient Carian and Greek port city.
Datca can be reached by road from Marmaris, though the route along the peninsula makes the journey relatively long. In some periods, there is also a seasonal ferry connection between Datca and Bodrum. Most visitors stay around Datca town, then explore nearby coves, Old Datca, and the road to Knidos.

Main places to visit in Datca
The main places to visit in Datca are the harbor area, Old Datca, Kargi Bay, and Knidos Ancient City. The harbor is the town's main visitor hub, while Old Datca is known for its traditional stone houses and narrow lanes. Kargi Bay is one of the bays commonly visited on day trips, and Knidos, at the far end of the peninsula, is the district's leading historical attraction, known for its ruins and sea views.
Datca has a generally low-rise built environment and feels more spread out than a dense resort center. The harbor and central areas are suitable for walking, especially for short coastal walks and evening strolls, while the wider district is better explored on scenic drives along the peninsula. Overall, the atmosphere is quieter than in Marmaris's main resort areas, with a small-town coastal character and a practical mix of waterfront stretches and older village streets.
Beyond sightseeing, common things to do include swimming, beach-hopping, and spending time around the harbor. Seafood, Turkish meze, and casual waterfront dining are central to the visitor experience, with restaurants and cafes concentrated around the harbor. Small shops are part of the same area, and almond products are among the local purchases most closely associated with Datca. Evenings are generally quiet, focused on dining, cafes, and walks rather than nightlife.
