Turgutreis, Turkey Travel Guide
Turgutreis, Turkey
Turgutreis is a town near Bodrum on the western side of the Bodrum Peninsula in Mugla Province, in Turkey's Aegean Region. It lies on the Aegean coast about 20 km west of Bodrum centre by road. The setting gives the town broad sea views and a strong connection to the waterfront, with low-rise development stretching along the coast and nearby inland slopes creating a practical base for seaside holidays and walking.
Turgutreis is known for its sunsets, relaxed coastal setting, and D-Marin Turgutreis, one of the major marinas on the peninsula. Visitors come for the waterfront, where the promenade, beach sections, restaurants, and marina facilities form the heart of the town. It also works well as a quieter base than central Bodrum, while still offering substantial services and easy access to other western peninsula areas such as Gumusluk and Akyarlar.
Visitors usually reach Turgutreis by road from Bodrum, with regular transport including dolmus minibuses. Milas-Bodrum Airport is the main airport for visitors staying in the town. From Turgutreis, road connections also make it easy to explore the western Bodrum Peninsula.

Main areas to visit in Turgutreis
The main visitor areas in Turgutreis are centred on the waterfront. D-Marin Turgutreis is the best-known landmark and an important marina on the peninsula. Around it are the promenade, beach sections, and seafront areas that make up the town's main attractions and places to see.
Turgutreis has a mixed atmosphere shaped by both local life and summer tourism. Compared with Bodrum centre, it is generally quieter and less focused on historic monuments, with more emphasis on the coast and everyday town life. Walking is best along the seafront, where the open Aegean setting, wide sea views, and low-rise built environment create a clear, easy layout for getting around on foot.
Beyond the main sights, visitors spend time swimming, walking by the sea, joining boat trips, and using the marina for yachting. Dining is concentrated along the seafront and includes seafood and Turkish cuisine. The town's mixed character means it functions both as a visitor base and as a larger settlement with year-round local life, while evenings centre mainly on the waterfront and marina area rather than on historic sightseeing.
