The Bodrum Amphitheater is located on a hillside not far from the city center and is among the most prominent monuments of ancient Halicarnassus. It is usually dated to the Hellenistic period, and the structure was later used and rebuilt in Roman times. Thanks to its elevated location, the theater fits well into the urban landscape and stands out clearly among the modern buildings.

The seating rows were carved into the natural slope, which is typical of ancient theaters in Asia Minor. According to estimates, the structure could accommodate about 13,000 spectators. The main parts of a classical theater can be identified in its layout: the seating area, the orchestra, and the stage zone. The lower rows have survived better to the present day, while the upper part has suffered more damage.

The monument is of interest not only as an archaeological site, but also as a place where one can clearly imagine the layout of an ancient city and its public life. After research and restoration, the theater is used as an open-air museum, and sometimes also as a venue for cultural events. From here, there are also wide views over Bodrum, the harbor, and the surrounding hills.

A visit usually does not take much time, so the amphitheater is easy to include in a walk around Bodrum together with other historical sites. At the same time, it is worth keeping in mind that the area is outdoors: the stone steps are uneven in places, and there is little shade during hot hours, so comfortable shoes and water will be especially useful.
