The Bodrum Windmills are located on a hill between the center of Bodrum and the Gumbet district. Thanks to its open and windy location, this site was long well suited for operating mills, which were an important part of everyday economic life on the peninsula.
Most of the surviving structures are usually dated to the 18th century, although they were repaired and rebuilt many times over the years. The mills were used for grinding grain, and they remained in operation until the second half of the 20th century, when they were gradually replaced by modern processing methods.
Today, the mills survive to varying degrees: some are stone towers without mechanisms or roofs, while others are fragments of old buildings. Despite their ruined condition, they clearly convey the traditional character of local rural architecture and recall a time when wind power was an important source of energy.
For tourists, this place is interesting not only for its history but also for its location. The hill offers wide views of Bodrum, Gumbet Bay, and the coastline, which is why people often come here for a walk, photographs, and a short stop while traveling between the two resort areas.

At the site, you can see a row of round stone towers built to take advantage of the constant winds along the hill ridge. Today, people come here primarily for the panoramic views. From the viewpoint, you can clearly see Bodrum's white houses, the harbor, part of the urban development, and Gumbet Bay. It is especially convenient to combine a visit to the windmills with a walk at sunset, when the light is softer and the contours of the coastline are more clearly visible.
Infrastructure at the windmills themselves is limited, so it is better to expect a short visit and a walk rather than a long stay. Nearby are the center of Bodrum, the Gumbet district, and the coastline with its beaches, so a stop at the windmills is easy to include in a city route.
You can get here by taxi or on foot from central Bodrum or from Gumbet, if you are prepared for an uphill walk. When visiting, it is worth taking into account the uneven rocky sections and the lack of shade during the hottest hours.
