Dim River
Dim River in Alanya, Turkey
The Dim River is located east of central Alanya, in the direction of Kestel, and is considered one of the most well-known leisure spots in the resort's surroundings. The river rises in the Taurus Mountains and flows through the Dim Valley, where it is usually noticeably cooler than by the sea. A trip here offers a chance to briefly exchange the beach and urban setting for a mountain-river landscape.
The most visited sections are located in the lower and middle parts of the valley. Restaurants and cafes operate along the water, often set up directly on the bank or on wooden platforms above the current. Here you can find gazebos, decks, family recreation areas, and sections where you can dip your feet in the water or step into the river for a short time. Even at the height of summer, the water remains cold, so people often come here on the hottest days.
Higher up the valley are the Dim Dam and reservoir, important for the region's water supply and electricity generation. However, the main tourist activity is concentrated farther downstream, where recreation areas, picnic grounds, and riverside establishments stretch along the road. As you go higher into the mountains, views open up over the riverbed, forested slopes, and rural parts of the valley.
A trip to the Dim River is often combined with a visit to Dim Cave, located nearby. For tourists, this is one of the most accessible natural locations near Alanya, visited for the cool air, lunch by the water, and a calmer atmosphere away from the coast.

A cool river valley with cafes and recreation areas by the water
The main feature of the Dim River is the format of relaxing right by the river. In many establishments, tables and platforms are placed above the water or very close to the current, and nearby there are sun loungers, low seating, and wooden platforms. Some sections have shallow access to the water, where visitors cool off in the heat, although the current and water temperature require caution.
The valley is suitable not only for lunch but also for a short half-day trip. People usually spend time here in the shade of the trees, have picnics, photograph views of the slopes and the river, and stop at several points along the road that climbs upward through the gorge. In the higher parts of the route, the atmosphere becomes calmer and development is less frequent.
Dim Cave is located nearby and is often included in the same trip, while farther up the valley you can see the dam and reservoir. The river is usually reached by car, taxi, or as part of an excursion from central Alanya and neighboring areas.
