Golden Horn Bridge
Golden Horn Bridge in Istanbul, Turkey - metro and bay views
The Golden Horn Bridge is located in the European part of Istanbul and crosses the bay of the same name between the Beyoglu and Fatih districts. It is situated between the Galata Bridge and the Ataturk Bridge and is clearly visible in the city skyline thanks to its tall cable-stayed span. It is a relatively new engineering structure created as part of Line M2 of the Istanbul Metro.
The bridge’s main feature is the "Halic" metro station, located directly above the water. For the city, it is an important transport hub: the bridge helps people travel more quickly between the northern neighborhoods, the Sisli district, Taksim Square, the historic center, and transfer connections toward Yenikapi. Because of this, it is interesting not only as a piece of urban infrastructure, but also as a rare example of a metro bridge with a full station in the middle of the bay.
For tourists, the bridge is primarily attractive for its views of the Golden Horn and the surrounding shores. From it and from the station, there are wide views of old Istanbul, mosques on the hills, residential neighborhoods, waterfronts, and the lively movement of boats and traffic. The contrast between the historic urban fabric and the city’s modern transport system is especially clear from here.
The bridge is not usually considered a separate destination for a long walk, but it is easy to include in a route around central Istanbul. A trip across it is often combined with visits to Eminonu, Karakoy, the Galata Bridge, Suleymaniye, and a walk along the shores of the Golden Horn. It is a convenient point from which to see the city from an unusual angle while also moving quickly between different parts of the center.

Golden Horn Bridge - Halic Station and city views
The station makes it easy to quickly take in the panorama of the Golden Horn and the city shores.
Metro above the water with views of the shores of the Golden Horn
Line M2 runs across the bridge, and in the central section there is the "Halic" station with pedestrian areas from which you can observe the bay and the dense urban development on both sides. During the ride, the curves of the shoreline, the old quarters of Fatih, and the more modern parts of Beyoglu are especially noticeable. This is one of those places where the journey itself becomes part of the city experience.
For pedestrians, the bridge is interesting as a short stop for the panorama rather than for a long walk. It is best to stay here for a few minutes to look at the silhouettes of mosques, ships, and the intertwining roads along the water. The station and passageways provide good views, but the main function of the place remains transportation, so there is a constant flow of passengers here.
Nearby, it is convenient to continue your route toward the Galata Bridge, Eminonu, the Karakoy district, Suleymaniye Mosque, and the streets around the Golden Horn. If you are traveling on Line M2, the bridge can easily be included in your journey between Taksim, Sisli, and the historic districts of the European side of Istanbul.
The easiest way to get here is by metro on Line M2, getting off at the "Halic" station, which is located directly on the bridge.
