Koprucay River

Koprucay River in Side, Turkey

The Koprucay River is located northeast of Side, within Antalya Province. It rises in the Taurus Mountains, passes through mountainous and forested areas, and flows into the Mediterranean Sea east of the coast of Side. The river is about 180 kilometers long, and its character changes noticeably along different sections - from calm flow to faster rapids.

Koprucay is best known for the Koprulu Canyon, where a national park is located with one of the region's most visited natural routes. Here the river passes between steep rocky banks, and the surrounding landscape includes pine and Mediterranean forests. This area is of interest to those who want to see the inland part of Antalya Province, not just the sea coast.

For tourists, Koprucay is primarily associated with rafting, walks along natural trails, and trips to the canyon. Organized rafting tours take place on sections of varying difficulty, but conditions depend on the season, water level, and the requirements of the specific operator. In addition to active recreation, people come here for panoramic views, cool air by the water, and the opportunity to spend a day in nature not far from Side.

A trip to the river usually takes several hours, including travel time and time spent on site, so it is often chosen as a separate excursion from the town and the coast. Koprucay is suitable for those interested in the natural landscapes of southern Turkey and who want to combine a visit to the canyon with active recreation.

Koprucay River

Mountain river with rapids, a canyon, and rafting routes

The most famous sections of the Koprucay are located in the area of Koprulu Canyon, where the riverbed narrows and the water passes through rocky stretches with rapids and calmer pools. During a visit, you can see the canyon's rock walls, forested sections along the banks, and the bright color of the water typical of a mountain river, which changes depending on the lighting and the season.

The main activity here is rafting as part of organized groups. Tourists are usually provided with equipment and given instructions, and the length of the route depends on the chosen section. For those not planning to raft, the area is suitable for short stops at viewpoints, photography, and relaxing by the water, although infrastructure in the natural areas may be limited.

Nearby there is also Koprulu Canyon National Park and the historic Oluk stone bridge, which are often included in the same trip. The river is usually reached by excursion transfer or by car from Side along the road toward Koprulu Canyon.
