Kilic Ali Pasha Mosque is located in the Beyoglu district, not far from the Karakoy waterfront in Istanbul. It is one of the notable monuments of late 16th-century Ottoman architecture, associated with the name of Admiral Kilic Ali Pasha. The project is usually attributed to the architect Sinan, whose works largely defined the appearance of the classical period of Ottoman architecture.

The mosque is part of a larger complex, which historically also included a madrasa, hammam, fountain, and mausoleum. For construction, the site by the water was expanded with artificial fill, since there was not enough free space on the shore. This detail clearly shows how important the concept was and how closely the complex was connected with the port part of the city.

The architecture of the building is organized around a large central dome and a harmoniously arranged prayer hall. Inside, attention is drawn to the great volume of the space, rows of windows, the mihrab, the minbar, and elements of traditional Ottoman decoration. The mosque is often compared with Hagia Sophia in its overall composition, but it is perceived as an independent and coherent monument of its time.

Today, the mosque remains an active religious building and offers the opportunity to see an important example of Istanbul architecture outside the busiest tourist routes. It is easy to include in a walk around Karakoy, near the Galata Bridge, Galata Tower, and the streets of Beyoglu.
