Ruins of the Ancient City of Blaundus
Ruins of the Ancient City of Blaundus in Usak, Turkey
The ruins of the ancient city of Blaundus are located in Usak Province in western Turkey, near the district of Ulubey. The ancient settlement was founded in the Hellenistic period and is associated with Macedonian colonists who appeared in Anatolia after the campaigns of Alexander the Great. The site was chosen on a high plateau that drops into deep gorges on several sides, giving the city natural protection.
Today, Blaundus is of interest as an open-air archaeological site. On the territory, you can see fragments of fortification walls, remains of gates, columns, and public buildings, as well as traces of the Roman period, when the city continued to exist and develop. Some structures have survived to the present day in the form of foundations and stone masonry, making it possible to imagine the layout of the ancient settlement.
For tourists, this place is attractive not only for its history but also for its landscape. The plateau rises above rugged terrain, and broad views of the canyons and surrounding hills open up from different points. A trip here is often combined with a visit to Ulubey Canyon, which is located in the same area and is known for its viewing platforms.

Ruins of the Ancient City of Blaundus: a walk across the plateau and walls
Here, traces of an ancient city and views over the gorges of Ulubey have been preserved.

During a walk around the site, you can examine sections of defensive structures, ruins of civic and probably cult buildings, as well as individual architectural details preserved among the stonework. The space is quite open, so the main impressions here are connected with the scale of the plateau, the lines of the ancient walls, and the surrounding relief.
It is best to allow extra time for your visit: the site is pleasant to explore on foot, stopping at preserved fragments of buildings and natural viewpoints. The ground is uneven in places, so closed shoes, water, and sun protection are more convenient for visiting, especially in the warm season. Infrastructure at the monument itself is usually minimal, and it is worth preparing for this in advance.
Nearby is Ulubey Canyon, one of the most famous natural attractions in Usak Province, where visitors often go after exploring the ruins. Blaundus is usually reached by car from Usak toward Ulubey, as public transport to the archaeological site itself is limited.
