Selimiye Village

Selimiye Village in Marmaris, Turkey

Selimiye is a coastal village on the Bozburun Peninsula, southwest of central Marmaris, on the shore of a long and sheltered bay. It is one of the calmest settlements in this part of the coast, known for its small waterfront, boat piers, and views of hills covered with pine trees and Mediterranean scrub vegetation.

The area around Selimiye is connected with the ancient settlement of Hydas, which existed here in antiquity. On the elevations near the village, fragments of ruins and traces of old fortifications have been preserved, recalling the bay's earlier settlement. These remains do not form a large archaeological complex, but they add historical context to the place.

Today, Selimiye is of interest primarily as a quiet stop on a route around the Bozburun Peninsula. Visitors come here for walks along the water, relaxation by the sea, and watching yachts and fishing boats in the bay. The village retains the scale of a small seaside settlement, so it is suitable for those who want to see a calmer side of the Marmaris area.

For tourists, Selimiye is convenient as a place for a short day trip or a more relaxed stay outside the noisy resort zones. There is no large urban development here, and the main impression is created by the shoreline, the view of the bay, and the proximity of the peninsula's natural landscapes.

Sheltered bay, piers, and views of the Bozburun hills

In Selimiye, people usually walk along the shoreline, watch the boats in the bay, and stop at small seaside cafes and guesthouses. The water in the bay is generally calmer than on the open coast, so yachts often come in here, and the bay itself looks like a natural harbor.

The beach line here is not like the large resort beaches of Marmaris: the shore is narrow in different places, in some parts with platforms or pebbles, and the swimming areas belong to small hotels, restaurants, or public sections by the water. The main activity for most visitors is not active entertainment, but swimming, short walks along the shore, and trips around the peninsula.

If you climb the heights near the village, you can see the remains of ancient structures and viewpoints over the bay and the surrounding hills. Nearby are other settlements of the Bozburun Peninsula, including Orhaniye and Bozburun, which are also visited for the coastline, marinas, and a quieter atmosphere compared to central Marmaris.

Selimiye is usually reached by road from central Marmaris through the interior part of the Bozburun Peninsula; the drive takes more than an hour depending on the season and traffic. During the summer period, local transport also runs here, but it is better to check the schedule in advance.
