Sepetciler Pavilion
Sepetciler Pavilion at Sarayburnu Point, Istanbul
Sepetciler Pavilion is located at Sarayburnu Point, at the southern tip of Istanbul's historic peninsula, next to Gulhane Park and the outer boundaries of the Topkapi Palace complex. This small Ottoman waterfront building stands by Kennedy Avenue, where the palace grounds once faced the Bosphorus and the entrance to the Golden Horn.
The pavilion is associated with Ottoman palace architecture of the late 16th and early 17th centuries, although its appearance changed during later reconstructions and restorations. The name is usually linked to the Turkish word sepet, meaning "basket," but the exact origin of the name has not been definitively established. Historically, the building was part of the outer palace zone and was used as a seaside pavilion for rest and observing movement on the water.
Today, Sepetciler is of interest primarily as part of the historical landscape of Sarayburnu rather than as a large museum site with an extensive exhibition. Its value lies in its location, its connection with the shoreline of old Istanbul, and its proximity to the key monuments of the Sultanahmet district. During a walk through this part of the city, the pavilion is conveniently viewed together with Gulhane, Topkapi, and the waterfront by the point.
This place is suitable for those who want to see a lesser-known Ottoman building outside the busiest routes. From the outside, its role in the waterfront palace setting is clearly visible, while the possibility of visiting the interiors depends on the current mode of use and may be limited.

When visiting, it is worth paying attention not so much to the size of the building as to its position. The pavilion stands at the edge of the historic shore, and this is what helps explain how the outer part of the Ottoman palace surroundings was arranged. It is best appreciated from the outside, in combination with the line of the walls, the greenery of Gulhane Park, and the view toward the strait.
For a tourist, this is more of a stop during a walk than a separate destination for several hours. Here you can view the facades, photograph the building in the context of the old shoreline, and continue on toward Sarayburnu Point or the area around Topkapi. If the pavilion is temporarily used for events or closed, this will not prevent including it in your route as an architectural point along the way.
Nearby are Gulhane Park, Topkapi Palace, the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, and the walking areas of the historic center. The pavilion is usually reached on foot from the Sultanahmet district or from Sirkeci Marmaray Station, continuing toward Sarayburnu and Gulhane Park.
