Khedive Palace

Khedive Palace on the Asian Shore of the Bosphorus, Istanbul, Turkey

Khedive Palace is located on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, in a green part of the Beykoz district, not far from Cubuklu. It is a palace and park complex from the early 20th century, built as the residence of Abbas II Hilmi, the last Khedive of Egypt and Sudan. Thanks to its elevated location, the building stands out clearly within the park and offers wide views of the strait.

The palace was built in 1907 based on a design by the Italian architects Antonio Lasciac and Delfo Seminati. Its appearance combines features of European Art Nouveau, Neoclassicism, and villa architecture, making the building a notable example of the late Ottoman era. The history of the palace is connected with the period when Istanbul remained an important political and cultural center of the region, and the patron himself maintained close ties with the Ottoman Empire.

After the founding of the Turkish Republic, the complex passed into municipal ownership, and was later restored and opened to the public. Today, people come here for the historic architecture, the park grounds, and peaceful walks among the trees with views of the Bosphorus. The palace is of interest to those who want to see not only the well-known imperial residences in central Istanbul, but also a less crowded historic site on the shore of the strait.

Inside the complex, attention is usually drawn not only to the building itself, but also to the park surrounding it. The grounds are well suited for a leisurely walk: paths run along the slope among mature trees, and from open viewpoints you can see the Bosphorus and the opposite shore. The most famous detail of the palace is its tower, which strengthens the building's resemblance to a European villa from the early 20th century.

Today, some of the rooms are used for public events, and food and beverage venues operate on the grounds. For this reason, a visit to the palace is often combined with relaxation in the park and a stop on a terrace overlooking the water. It is worth bearing in mind that access to the interior spaces may depend on the current opening schedule and any events being held.

Nearby are the Cubuklu Grove and other coastal areas of Beykoz, which are convenient to include in a route along the Asian shore of the Bosphorus. You can get here by bus or taxi from the Uskudar and Kadikoy districts, as well as by ferry to the nearest Bosphorus piers followed by a short ride along the shore.
