Side Port

Side Port in Side, Turkey

Side Port is located at the tip of the peninsula in the old part of the city of Side, on the Mediterranean coast. Even in ancient times, this harbor played an important role in maritime trade, and the city itself was one of the notable port centers of the region. The history of the port is closely connected with the development of Side as a coastal settlement through which the trade routes of the eastern Mediterranean passed.

Today, the port no longer serves as a major commercial harbor and is used mainly by pleasure boats, excursion vessels, and private yachts. At the same time, the place preserves its connection with the past: along the shore and in the water area, you can notice the remains of ancient hydraulic structures, reminding visitors of the harbor's centuries-old history. Thanks to its seaside location, the port remains one of the most recognizable parts of Side's historic center.

For tourists, the port is interesting primarily because of the combination of its archaeological surroundings and modern waterfront life. From here, it is convenient to begin a walk through old Side, explore the coastline, watch the boats, and observe vessels heading out to sea. Views of the harbor open up from different points of the peninsula, especially from the side of the ancient ruins and the seaside streets.

The port also serves as a departure point for sea excursions along the coast and trips toward the Manavgat River. Nearby are cafes, restaurants, and shops in the historic part of the city, so a visit to the harbor can easily be combined with a walk, relaxation by the water, and sightseeing at other attractions in Side.

Side Port

Historic harbor and departure point for sea excursions

At Side Port, excursion boats, small pleasure craft, and private yachts are usually moored. Here, you can see a modern tourist harbor set against the backdrop of the ancient urban landscape: stone sections of the old shoreline, remains of ancient breakwaters by the water, and the dense buildings of the historic district, which come almost right up to the sea.

From here, sea trips depart along the coast, as well as routes toward the mouth and area of the Manavgat River. Many visitors come to the port not only for boat trips, but also to walk along the water, watch the vessels, sit at one of the establishments by the waterfront, or watch the sunset at the edge of the peninsula.

Within a few minutes' walk are the ancient theater of Side, the Temple of Apollo, the ruins of the agora, and the narrow streets of the old town with shops and restaurants. Therefore, the port is convenient to include in an itinerary together with the main historical monuments of central Side.

The easiest way to reach the port is on foot from the center of Side and from the historic part of the city, where the main walking routes usually lead. Vehicles are generally left at the approach to the old town, and the rest of the way is continued on foot.
