The Victory Monument is located on Victory Square in central Bishkek and is one of the city's main memorial sites connected with the memory of the Great Patriotic War. The composition was unveiled in 1985 for the 40th anniversary of Victory. The project was created by architects V. Bukhaev and V. Lyzenko, as well as sculptors M. Anikushkin and T. Sadykov.
The main element of the memorial is three tall curved arches forming a shape reminiscent of the frame of a Kyrgyz yurt and tunduk. Beneath them burns the Eternal Flame, and nearby stands a sculpture of a mother holding up a bowl. This design combines the military theme with national architectural imagery and makes the monument easily recognizable.
The composition also includes other sculptural elements dedicated to soldiers and return from war, while memorial plaques with names and inscriptions are installed on the sides. For tourists, this is not only an important historical site, but also a clear example of Soviet monumental architecture in the urban space of Bishkek.
People come here to see one of the most famous memorial squares in the capital, lay flowers, or simply take a quiet look at the monument while walking through the central part of the city. The site becomes especially significant on commemorative dates, when official ceremonies and remembrance events are held here.
