Antalya City Center and the Old Town Kaleiçi
Antalya city center is an urban district within the larger city of Antalya, occupying the coastal central area and encompassing the downtown core. This is where the historical heart of ancient Attalea developed, leaving behind old neighborhoods by the harbor and the main city squares. Today it is Antalya's business and cultural hub, with a high concentration of services, shops and institutions.
The district is well connected: city tram lines run along the main streets with stops within walking distance, for example around Ismetpasa and Dogu Garaji, from where it's easy to reach the airport and northern neighborhoods. A nostalgic tram runs along Isiklar and Republic Square, and numerous bus routes link the center with other parts of the city. The main axes for pedestrians and city transport are Ataturk and Kazim Ozalp streets, which have many crossings and stops.
The urban landscape combines narrow lanes of the old quarter with Ottoman-era houses and newer districts with administrative buildings and shopping arcades. Coastal cliffs provide natural viewpoints over the bay, and green areas and seaside promenades offer pleasant walking routes. Within the district are the central squares, the old harbor and several parks — convenient places to pause between sightseeing.

Kaleiçi, the old harbor and key sites in central Antalya
Kaleiçi — the historic quarter within Antalya's center — retains several landmark sites: Hadrian's Gate, built in the 2nd century; the Hidirlik Tower on the cliff edge; the Clock Tower at the main gates; and the 13th-century Seljuk Yivli Minaret. Pleasure boats moor in the old harbor, and narrow streets lead to the historic Alaaddin Mosque, also known as Kesik Minaret. City events take place on Republic Square and nearby intersections, which gather the main pedestrian flows.
Green spaces include Karaalioglu Park, with tree-lined paths and views over the bay; from the park's edge there are lookouts over the mountain ridge and the old harbor. Below, at the foot of the cliffs, is the small Mermerli beach, accessible by a staircase from the old town. The Antalya Toy Museum is located by the harbor, and the Suna-İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum displays ethnographic collections; Isiklar Street and the pedestrian section of Kazim Ozalp are popular for walks and cafés.
The area has many small hotels and guesthouses in historic buildings, plus cafés and restaurants serving local cuisine — from budget options to mid-range dining. It's easy to get around by city tram: main stops are in the Ismetpasa and Dogu Garaji areas; the nostalgic tram runs along Isiklar and further south. For orientation: the Konyaalti coastal area begins to the west of the center, while the Lara districts lie to the east.
