The ancient city of Kedrai is located on Sedir Island in the Gulf of Gokova, northwest of Marmaris. The island is better known to tourists as Cleopatra Island, but its historical value is primarily linked to the ruins of an ancient Carian city. Thanks to its position on the sea routes of southwestern Anatolia, the settlement took part in the region's trade and maritime connections.
Kedrai is considered one of the ancient cities of Caria. It is mentioned in sources from the classical period, including in connection with events of the Peloponnesian War. The archaeological site preserves traces of several construction periods, so on the island you can see not just one separate monument, but the remains of an urban environment that took shape over a long period of time.
Today, fragments of fortress walls, towers, ruins of residential and public buildings, as well as the remains of a small theater can be distinguished on the island. The site is also associated with traces of a cult building, usually identified as a sanctuary of Apollo.
