Babadag

Babadag in Fethiye, Turkey - a mountain for flights and coastal views

Babadag is located above the resort area of Oludeniz and Ovacik, near Fethiye, in southwestern Turkey. It is a mountain massif on the edge of the Lycian coast that rises to nearly 2,000 meters and stands out prominently above the shoreline. Thanks to its proximity to the sea and open slopes, the mountain has become one of the country's most famous places for paragliding flights.

The main feature of Babadag is the combination of significant height, convenient launch platforms, and wide views of the coast. Different sections offer views of Oludeniz, the Blue Lagoon, the bays, and the mountain slopes around Fethiye. People come here not only for sports, but also ordinary visitors who want to go up for the panorama and the change in scenery from the sea to the highlands.

The ascent to the mountain has become easier thanks to the cable car, which connects the lower part of the route with the upper platforms. Therefore, Babadag is interesting not only for those planning a tandem flight with an instructor, but also for those who simply want to spend a few hours at altitude. At the summit and viewing areas, people usually spend time taking photographs, watching paraglider launches, and looking over the surroundings.

For tourists, Babadag is above all a viewpoint and one of the most recognizable places in the Fethiye area. A trip here is often combined with a holiday in Oludeniz, walks along the coast, and visits to nearby natural sites. It is best to keep in mind that at altitude, the temperature and wind can differ noticeably from the conditions by the sea.

Launch platforms and views of Oludeniz from a great height

Babadag has several paraglider launch platforms equipped at different elevations. This makes it possible to choose conditions depending on the weather and the pilots' level of training. For tourists, the most accessible option is a tandem flight with an instructor, during which the curved coastline, the Blue Lagoon, and the wooded slopes around the bay are clearly visible.

Even without a flight, a trip to the mountain is worthwhile as a scenic ascent. In the upper sections, the character of the landscape changes: the hot coast remains below, while the air above is usually cooler and drier. Visitors come here to watch launches, take panoramic photos, and observe how the color of the sea and the coastal relief change at different times of day.

Near Babadag are the beach and lagoon of Oludeniz, the Lycian Way, and the abandoned Greek village of Kayakoy, so the trip can easily be combined with other routes in the surroundings of Fethiye. If you are traveling independently, it is usually most convenient to first get to Oludeniz or Ovacik, and then go up by cable car or by mountain road transport.
