Iztuzu Beach

Iztuzu Beach in Dalyan, Turkey

Iztuzu Beach is located near Dalyan, not far from Dalaman, on a narrow sandy spit between the Mediterranean Sea and the waters of the Dalyan River delta. It is one of the best-known natural areas in southwestern Turkey, where visitors come for the wide sandy shore, open sea views, and a natural setting. The place is well suited to those who want to combine a beach holiday with a trip around the Dalyan area.

The special feature of Iztuzu lies in its landscape: on one side there is the sea with a long surf line, and on the other, the calm waters of the delta and lagoons. The beach is long and spacious, with a sandy surface and a relatively gentle entry into the water in many areas. Because of this, it is convenient for walking along the shore, swimming, and spending time by the water without dense urban development nearby.

Iztuzu is also known as a protected natural area. The beach is linked to the egg-laying sites of loggerhead sea turtles, so rules are in place here aimed at protecting the coastal ecosystem. It is precisely this conservation status that has largely preserved this stretch of coastline in a more natural form compared with many resort beaches in the region.

Iztuzu is of interest to tourists not only for the sea, but also for the route to the beach itself. People often get here by boat along the river through the reed beds of the delta, as well as by road from the center of Dalyan. A trip to the beach is often combined with viewing river landscapes, mud springs in the surrounding area, and the Lycian rock tombs visible from the river side.

Here, the sea, river delta, and protected shoreline come together.

Iztuzu Beach

The sandy spit between the sea and the Dalyan River delta

At Iztuzu, you can swim in the sea, walk along the long open shore, and observe how the landscape changes between the seaside and the calm inland waters. The beach remains relatively free from dense development, so the main focus here is on nature, the coastline, and wide sandy areas. In season, standard facilities for a day at the beach operate on parts of the shore, but the character of the place remains more natural than urban.

An important feature of the beach is its nature protection regime. Restrictions related to the protection of sea turtles are in force in the area, so visitors should pay close attention to informational signs and established rules. This primarily concerns certain zones on the shore and behavior in the evening and at night during the turtle breeding season.

The most popular activities here are swimming, walking along the water's edge, relaxing on the sand, and observing the surrounding delta landscape. The sea in this area is open, so water and wave conditions depend on the weather. Near the beach and on the way to it are the Dalyan river channels, Lycian tombs in the rocks, and Lake Koycegiz, which are often included in one trip.

You can get to Iztuzu by boat along the river from Dalyan or by road using a minibus or taxi from the center of Dalyan.
