Kizkumu Beach
Kizkumu Beach in Marmaris, Turkey
Kizkumu Beach is located near the village of Orhaniye, about 30 km from the center of Marmaris, on the shore of Hisaronu Bay. It is one of the most famous places in the resort’s surroundings, attracting visitors with its unusual sandbar and calm sea. The beach lies in a sheltered bay, so the water here is usually smooth, without strong waves.
The main feature of Kizkumu is a long, narrow shoal stretching out into the sea. In this section, the depth remains very shallow, and from a distance it looks as if people are walking directly on the water. It is this natural effect that has made the beach recognizable far beyond Orhaniye.
The shore and surroundings of Kizkumu are framed by green hills with pine trees, giving the bay a more secluded appearance compared to the open coastline. People come here not only for swimming, but also to walk through the shallow water, take photos, and see one of the most unusual coastal areas in the Marmaris region.
A popular local legend is associated with this place, telling of a girl who tried to reach her beloved across the sea by scattering sand in front of her. Today, Kizkumu remains a notable natural attraction in the Marmaris area and is often included in day-trip routes around Hisaronu Bay.

A sandbar you can walk on in the middle of the sea
Kizkumu Beach is primarily interesting for its shoreline: part of the coast here turns into a narrow strip of sand extending into the water. The shallow water makes it easy to enter the sea, and thanks to the calm bay, this place is often chosen for a short break, a walk on the water, and photos. At the height of the season, the sandbar itself can be crowded, especially during the arrival times of excursion groups.
Along the shore in Orhaniye, there are cafes and small family-run establishments, as well as sun loungers and basic beach infrastructure. At the same time, the style of отдых here differs from a typical beach day on a wide sandy shore: many people come only briefly to walk along the shoal, swim, and explore the bay. For more comfortable swimming, it is worth noting that the seabed in some sections may be uneven.
Near Kizkumu are the Orhaniye promenade, piers for sightseeing boats, and the green slopes of Hisaronu Bay; in the surrounding area, visitors also go to see the ruins of Bayir Fortress and other small bays of the Bozburun Peninsula. You can get here from the center of Marmaris by car, taxi, or as part of a tour of the surrounding area.
