Knight's Fortress is located on a hill in the center of Fethiye, above the urban development and the coast. It is a prominent historical landmark of the city, which people climb to for the view of the bay, the harbor, and the neighborhoods of Fethiye. Today, the fortress survives in the form of ruins, but even in this condition it remains an important part of the urban landscape.
Fortifications existed on this site long before the late Middle Ages. The name of the fortress is usually associated with the Knights of the Order of Saint John, who used and fortified this hill, although the remains visible today date from different eras. The history of Fethiye itself and its surroundings includes Lycian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods, and this is reflected in the layered character of the monument.
Fragments of walls and parts of defensive structures have survived from the fortress, and a large Turkish flag is installed at the top. The site is interesting not only as a ruin, but also as a viewing point from which the position of the city on the bay can be better understood. Lycian rock tombs are located on the slopes of the hill and nearby, so a walk here is often combined with visiting other ancient monuments in the center of Fethiye.

The climb to the fortress leads through the streets of central Fethiye and ends at the ruins on a rocky elevation. On site, you can see sections of stone masonry, remnants of walls, and the uneven terrain of the old fortifications. This is not a museum site with restored interiors, but an open historical area, where the main interest lies in the preserved structure of the defensive hill and the panorama of the city.
From the upper point, there are good views of Fethiye Bay, the marina, the rooftops of the central neighborhoods, and the surrounding slopes. It is best to come in clear weather and in comfortable shoes, as the surface is rocky and uneven in places. During your visit, it is worth being more careful near the edges of the platforms and around the ruined sections of the walls.
Near the fortress are the famous Lycian rock tombs, including the Tomb of Amyntas, and lower down the slope begins the city center with cafés, shops, and the waterfront. The fortress is usually reached on foot from the center of Fethiye, as it is located directly above the city streets.
