Konya Airport

Konya Airport in Selcuklu, Konya, Turkey

Konya Airport (KYA) is located on the northern side of Konya, in the Selcuklu district, about 18 km from the city center. It is a joint military-civilian airport: part of the territory and infrastructure is used by the Turkish Air Force, while the civilian area handles scheduled passenger flights. For most travelers, the airport is the main arrival point in Konya.

Civilian service here has been developing since the early 2000s. Most flights are usually connected with domestic destinations, primarily Istanbul and other major cities in Turkey. International flights are more limited and may vary depending on the season and airline schedules.

The airport has one passenger terminal serving domestic and international departures. Inside, there are standard regional airport services: check-in, security control, baggage claim, waiting areas, car rental desks, and basic passenger infrastructure. The airport is convenient for those heading to central Konya, the Mevlana Museum, historic mosques, and other city attractions.

For tourists, the airport is important above all as a practical transport hub. From here, it is relatively quick to reach the city center, the railway station, and hotel districts. The drive to central Konya usually takes about 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of day.

The passenger area of the airport is designed for the basic needs of travelers and is usually seen as compact and easy to navigate. Here you will find check-in counters, screening areas, baggage claim, waiting spaces, and services that help you move quickly from arrival to the city exit. For independent travel, car rental desks and taxi pickup areas are especially useful.

For tourists, the airport is convenient because it does not require long walks within the terminal and is suitable both for a short stop and for the start of a trip around Konya and Central Anatolia. After arrival, travelers usually head to the city center, where the Mevlana Museum, Alaeddin Mosque, and Alaeddin Hill are located. The airport is also used by passengers continuing on to Konya's business districts and university quarters.

It is worth noting that the choice of international destinations here is usually smaller than at Turkey's largest airports, so many routes involve a transfer. Before traveling, it is useful to check the schedule, transfer options, and car rental conditions in advance, especially if your arrival is planned for late hours. During the high season, waiting times at certain service points may increase.

You can reach the airport by taxi, rental car, or transfer from central Konya. If you have time before departure or after arrival, the Mevlana Museum and Konya's historic center are relatively nearby.
