Lake Egirdir
Lake Egirdir in Bucak, Turkey: lakeside relaxation and islands
Lake Egirdir is located in southwestern Turkey, in Isparta Province, in the mountainous area of the Western Taurus. From Bucak, the most convenient way to reach it is to head northwest toward the town of Egirdir and the lakeshore. It is one of the country's large freshwater lakes, with an area that changes depending on the season and water level, usually amounting to about 470-480 km².
For travelers, the lake is interesting for its combination of open water expanses, mountain surroundings, and small historic settlements along the shore. Two islands connected to the mainland by a road and causeway are especially well known. One of them is Can Ada, the other is Yesilada, where traditional residential buildings have been preserved and traces of the region's multinational past are visible.
Yesilada, formerly known as Nis, was for a long time home to a Greek community until the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923. Today, the island attracts visitors with its narrow streets, old stone houses, and calm coastal atmosphere. The lake itself remains an important natural resource for the region and a source of fresh water.
Egirdir suits those who want to see not a sea coast, but an inland lakeshore of Turkey, walk along the waterfront, see historic quarters, and spend time by the water in a calmer setting. A trip here is often combined with sightseeing in the town of Egirdir and routes through the surrounding mountains and rural areas of Isparta Province.

Islands, old quarters, and walks by fresh water
Along the shores of the lake, you can walk on the waterfronts, stop at viewpoints, and observe how the color of the water and the shoreline change at different times of the year. In the warm season, people spend more time outdoors here, and the gentle coastal terrain makes the area convenient for leisurely walks and short stops along the way.
Yesilada usually draws the most interest - a former island that is now connected to the mainland by a road. Here you can stroll along residential streets with traditional houses, see the old layout of the settlement, and get a sense of what a small lakeside community looks like away from the major resorts. Can Ada is smaller in size and is perceived more as part of the lake's overall landscape.
The lake is also known as a place for observing nature and the everyday life of the coastal settlements. In different sections of the shore, you can find fishing boats, small piers, and recreation areas by the water. Near the lake, you can also explore the center of Egirdir, the old fortress area, and panoramic sections along the shore.
From Bucak, people usually get here by car via Isparta or along regional roads toward Egirdir. It is worth planning the trip with extra time so as not to limit yourself to a short stop by the water, but to have time to see the island area and the lakeside town itself.
