Lake Kovada
Lake Kovada in Bucak, Turkey
Lake Kovada is located in a natural area south of Egirdir, near Bucak, within Kovada National Park in Isparta Province. It is a freshwater lake of karst origin, connected to Lake Egirdir by a canal. It lies at an altitude of about 900 meters above sea level and is known for its शांत landscape, where the water, forested shores, and low hills form a unified natural environment.
The lake is relatively small: it is about 9 kilometers long, and its average depth is approximately 6-7 meters. The water here often has a greenish tint and limited clarity, which is related to the natural characteristics of the bottom and silty deposits. For tourists, this place is interesting not so much for swimming as for the opportunity to see a typical natural complex of the inland part of southwestern Turkey.
The shores of the lake are covered with forests where pines, oaks, and junipers can be found, and the undergrowth includes species typical of the Mediterranean zone. There are also agricultural plots in the surrounding area, including orchards. The national park was established to protect local ecosystems, so the area is of interest to those who want to discover the nature of the region in a calmer setting, without urban development and dense tourist traffic.
Lake Kovada is suitable for a short stop in nature, a walk, birdwatching, and relaxing in the shade of the forest. Here you can see not only the waterscape but also the diversity of local flora and fauna: foxes, wild boars, squirrels, hares, and small predators live in the forests, while ducks and other birds can be seen by the water. This destination is usually chosen by travelers interested in natural parks, lakes, and less crowded routes in the interior of Turkey.

Lake Kovada and walks in the national park
You can spend a few hours here among forested shores and quiet water.
Forested shores, a karst lake, and quiet walking areas
Within the national park, areas for short rest stops and picnics are arranged along the lake, and the main value of the route is connected with walks through the natural area. Visitors come here to stroll through forested sections by the water, observe birds, and see the combination of lakeshore, coniferous trees, and Mediterranean shrubland. The format of a visit here is rather contemplative: it is a place for unhurried sightseeing, photos, and a short отдых на природе.
The vegetation around the lake changes noticeably depending on the section: closer to the forest, pines, oaks, and junipers predominate, while the shrub layer includes wild olive, myrtle, rosehip, jasmine, and other species characteristic of the region. Thanks to this combination of natural zones, the park is interesting at different times of the year, especially for those who pay attention to local flora. By the water, you can notice waterfowl, and in the quieter forested parts, traces of small mammals and wild boars.
Infrastructure for active recreation is limited here, so the trip is usually planned as an outing for a few hours or as part of a route through the lakes of Isparta Province. Nearby are Lake Egirdir and natural areas connected with its system, so a visit to Kovada is often combined with trips around the surroundings of Egirdir and the southwestern part of inland Turkey.
The most convenient way to reach the lake is by car along local roads from Egirdir or from settlements in the direction of Bucak. Before the trip, it is worth keeping in mind that this is a natural area with calmer infrastructure than at major lakeside resorts, so it is better to bring water, food, and necessary items with you in advance.
