Pierre Loti Hill

Pierre Loti Hill in Eyupsultan, Istanbul, Turkey

Pierre Loti Hill is located in the Eyupsultan district, in the European part of Istanbul, above the shore of the Golden Horn. It is one of the city's well-known viewpoints, offering clear views of the curves of the inlet, the dense historic development, and the more modern neighborhoods on the opposite slopes.

The place is associated with the name of the French writer Pierre Loti, who visited Istanbul at the end of the 19th century. According to local tradition, he spent a great deal of time here, and over time the hill came to bear his name. This connection made the site notable not only as a scenic viewpoint, but also as part of the city's cultural memory.

The hill rises above Eyupsultan, a district known for its mosques, hillside cemeteries, and religious monuments important to the city. For this reason, a trip here is often combined with a walk through the district itself, as well as a visit to the Golden Horn waterfront.

Today, people come here for the panorama, a short stop at a café, and the opportunity to see Istanbul from a less familiar angle. You can reach the top either on foot up the slope or by cable car, which ascends from the lower part of the district to the viewpoint.

At the top, there are terraces and walking areas from which it is convenient to view the Golden Horn and the neighborhoods along its shores. From here, the terrain of this part of Istanbul is especially clear: the narrow inlet, the rising streets, and the dense urban fabric characteristic of the old districts.

There are cafés at the site, where many people stop briefly for the view, tea, or coffee. During the daytime, it is usually crowded, especially on weekends and in the high season, so for a quieter visit it is better to come in the morning. It is worth noting that this is primarily a viewpoint rather than a large park for a long walk.

Below on the slope lies the Eyupsultan district with the Eyup Sultan Mosque, historic streets, and an old cemetery stretching along the hill. Nearby, you will also find the Golden Horn waterfront and water transport stations if you plan to continue your route along the shore.

The most convenient way to get here is by cable car from the lower part of Eyupsultan, and you can walk back down if you want to explore the surroundings along the way. If you choose the walking route, keep in mind the incline and the large number of steps on some sections.
