Panoramas from Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace viewing platform
Topkapi Palace viewing platform, Istanbul, Turkey
The Topkapi Palace viewing platform is located on the high ground of Istanbul's historic peninsula, inside the Topkapı Sarayı museum complex. Thanks to its position on the Sarayburnu point, it offers natural panoramas of the Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara and the entrance to the Golden Horn.
The best views are available from the terraces of the Fourth Courtyard, including the Marble Terrace. From these points you can see the European shore with Karakoy and Galata, the waterfronts toward Kabatas and Besiktas, and the Asian side with Uskudar. The Maiden's Tower sits on an islet in the waterway opposite, and city ferries and vessels constantly pass through the strait.
The platforms are located within the palace grounds and are open during museum hours with the palace admission ticket. There is no separate fee to visit the viewing terraces. Some areas are outdoors, so temporary restrictions may apply during bad weather or restorations.
Historically the Fourth Courtyard served as a private zone for sultans. Near the terraces are the Baghdad and Revan kiosks, built under Sultan Murad IV in the 1630s, and the elegant Iftariye pavilion. These structures underline that Topkapi's viewing platforms were originally conceived as privileged spots for observing the strait.

Bosphorus panorama from the Fourth Courtyard terraces
The main viewpoints are located in the Fourth Courtyard: the Marble Terrace by the Baghdad and Revan kiosks, the platform by the Iftariye Kameriyesi pavilion and the gallery along the fence facing the Bosphorus. Railings and spacious areas are provided here for safe viewing and photography.
From the platforms it's easy to spot landmarks: the Maiden's Tower on a small islet, the historic Galata quarter with the Galata Tower, the waterfronts of Karakoy and further along the Kabatas - Besiktas line, and opposite - Uskudar. You can watch ferries and the passage of large ships, take panoramic photos and relax in the courtyard's shady corners.
Many important sites are nearby: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Gulhane Park, the Istanbul Archaeological Museum and the Basilica Cistern are all within a short walk of the palace.
It's convenient to get there by the T1 tram to the Sultanahmet or Gulhane stops, then walk 5-10 minutes to Topkapi Palace's main entrance.
