Syedra Colonnaded Street
Syedra Colonnaded Street in Alanya, Turkey
Syedra Colonnaded Street is located within the ruins of the ancient city of Syedra on a hill above the sea east of Alanya, near the village of Seki. It is one of the most prominent features of the archaeological complex, making it easy to imagine the layout of the urban environment in antiquity. The street passed through an important part of the city and likely connected public spaces within the regular urban development.
Today, the site features rows of fallen columns, remains of stone paving, and fragments of the walls of adjacent structures. According to archaeological data, the street was about 250 meters long and approximately 10 meters wide. Even in its preserved state, it conveys the scale of the city's main thoroughfare and the nature of the layout of ancient Syedra.
Interest in the site is also linked to finds made during excavations in the city. In Syedra, inscriptions related to public life and local competitions were discovered, and some of the unearthed objects were transferred to museums in Turkey, including the Alanya Archaeological Museum. For tourists, the Colonnaded Street is of interest as a vivid part of a large archaeological monument that is convenient to explore together with other preserved sites of Syedra.

During a walk along the Colonnaded Street, you can observe not only the columns themselves but also the overall structure of the ancient city. It is clearly visible that this was not a random passage area, but an important axis of development, along which public and utility spaces were located. The remains of masonry and paving levels help to better understand how movement and urban space were organized.
The site is explored in the open air across uneven archaeological terrain, so comfortable footwear is especially important here. It is best to allow time not only for the street itself but for the entire Syedra complex: the site preserves cisterns, fragments of bath structures, walls, and sections of other buildings. From the elevation, wide views open over the sea and the coastline toward Alanya.
The Colonnaded Street is usually visited as part of a general walk through the ruins of Syedra, and after the visit, you can continue your route to other historical places in the surroundings of Alanya. Visitors usually get here by car or taxi from Alanya toward Seki, after which a short drive remains and the site is explored on foot.
