Kalkan is a small coastal resort town on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, between Fethiye and Kas. Built on steep hillsides above a small bay and harbour, it offers wide sea views from many of its streets. The centre is compact and walkable, though the uphill gradients can make some routes tiring, especially in hot weather.
Kalkan is known for its whitewashed old town houses, narrow lanes, and bougainvillea-covered facades. Visitors come for the harbour setting, sea-view villas, rooftop restaurants, and nearby excursions to places such as Kaputas Beach, Patara Beach, Patara Ancient City, and Lycian historical sites including Xanthos. Most visitors reach Kalkan by road, usually from Fethiye or Kas along the coastal highway. Dalaman Airport is the main airport serving the town, though the transfer is relatively long compared with some other Turkish resorts.
