The Clock Tower is located in the center of Izmir, in Konak Square by the waterfront. It is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks and an important part of the historic character of the Konak district, where administrative buildings, transport hubs, and popular walking areas are concentrated.
The tower was built in 1901 to mark the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II's accession to the throne. Its design was prepared by the French architect Raymond Charles Péré. According to widely accepted historical accounts, the clock mechanism was a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II. The structure was built in the Ottoman style and is notable for its slender proportions, decorative detailing, and four fountains at the base.
For tourists, the tower is interesting not only as a monument from the beginning of the 20th century, but also as a convenient starting point for exploring the central part of Izmir. From here, it is easy to walk to the seafront promenade, Konak Square, Konak Mosque, and other city attractions. The place is lively throughout the day, so people often come here both for a walk and as a meeting point.
The Clock Tower has appeared on Turkish banknotes more than once and has long become one of the city's visual symbols. In the evening, it is clearly visible thanks to its lighting, and during the day it stands out in the open space of the square, where it is convenient to stop, look around the center, and take photographs.

Visitors do not usually go up inside the tower, so the main activities here are viewing the architecture, taking photographs, and making a short stop while exploring the city center.
Very close by are Konak Mosque, Konak Pier, the Kordon waterfront promenade, and the Izmir Historical Elevator, which can be reached in a short time. The tower is located at a convenient transport point: it is easy to get here by ferry, tram, bus, or metro to the Konak district.
