Lion Alley is located within Anitkabir, the memorial complex of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, in the central part of Ankara. It is the main pedestrian approach to the ceremonial square and the mausoleum, so for many visitors this is where their acquaintance with one of Turkey's most famous memorial sites begins.
The alley is a straight path about 260 meters long, with 24 stone lion figures placed along its sides. These sculptures are made in a style that refers to ancient Anatolian traditions, and the road itself is designed so that visitors move through the complex slowly and gradually reach the central part of the memorial.
A walk along the alley makes it possible to better understand the composition of the entire Anitkabir complex: from here, the axis of the complex, the open spaces, and the solemn character of the architecture are clearly perceived.
