Lower Duden Waterfall
Lower Duden Waterfall in Antalya, Turkey
The Lower Duden Waterfall is located in the eastern part of Antalya, in the Lara district, on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Here, the Duden River plunges from a coastal cliff about 40 meters high and falls directly into the sea. Thanks to this, the waterfall differs noticeably from other natural sites in the city and is easily recognizable in panoramas of the coastline.
The Duden River is fed by karst springs north of Antalya and, as it approaches the city, forms two well-known waterfalls - Upper and Lower Duden. The Lower Waterfall is also known as Karpuzkaldiran. Its present appearance is connected both with the natural course of the river and with the system of canals that were historically used in the surroundings of Antalya for water distribution.
Around the waterfall lies Duden Park, with walking paths, lawns, trees, and viewing platforms along the edge of the cliffs. From here, there are views of the sea, the rocky coast, and the water flow itself, especially striking after rain and during periods of heavier flow. The place is suitable for a short stop during a trip around the city and for a walk by the sea.
For tourists, Lower Duden is of interest because of the combination of an urban waterfront and the rare coastal sight of a waterfall falling directly into the sea. It is often visited together with the Lara district, the beach strip, and viewpoint locations on the cliffs. The waterfall can be seen not only from land, but also from the water during a boat trip along the Antalya coast.

A stream of water from coastal cliffs straight into the Mediterranean Sea
The main reason people come here is for the view of the stream of water dropping from the cliff into the sea and the wide panorama of the Antalya coastline. There are several platforms in the park with different viewing angles: from some, the line of the cliffs is more visible; from others, the point where the water falls and the sea horizon can be seen better. In clear weather, the contrast between the light-colored cliffs, the greenery of the park, and the water is especially striking.
The park by the waterfall is suitable for a მშვიდ stroll. There are benches, shady areas, fenced approaches to the cliff edge, and convenient paths. Swimming near the waterfall itself is not allowed because of the rocky shore and strong current, so a visit usually consists of a walk, viewing the lookout points, and taking photographs. From the sea side, the waterfall looks different, so it is often included in the route of sightseeing boats from Antalya.
The best time to visit is in the morning or closer to evening, when there is less heat on the platforms and the light is softer for viewing. Nearby are the coastal parks of the Lara district, viewpoints on the cliffs, and city blocks with cafés. From the center of Antalya, people usually get here by taxi, city bus, or car in the direction of Lara.
