Olympos Beach
Olympos Beach in Olympos-Cirali, Turkey
Olympos Beach is located on the Mediterranean coast in the Olympos - Cirali area, southwest of central Kemer. It is a long coastal strip stretching about 3.5-4 kilometers, where pebbles, sand, and sections with larger stones at the water's edge alternate. The shore is surrounded by green slopes, pine trees, and gardens, so even in high season the area feels calmer and more natural than many urban beaches in the region.
The place is especially interesting for its combination of sea and archaeological heritage. On the southern side, the beach adjoins ancient Olympos, one of the ancient cities of Lycia, where ruins of streets, buildings, tombs, and fragments of old walls have been preserved. A visit here is often combined with a walk through the archaeological zone, as the beach and the ruins are located very close to each other.
The coast is part of a naturally valuable area near Beydaglari Sahil National Park. This stretch of shore is known as a nesting area for loggerhead sea turtles, so during certain periods there are restrictions on the beach related to nature protection, especially in the evening and at night. For visitors, this means a more careful approach to recreation and less noisy infrastructure by the water.
Small pensions, guesthouses, and bungalows predominate in the surroundings, and the atmosphere differs noticeably depending on which side of the coast you are on. The Cirali side is usually quieter and offers more family-friendly accommodation, while the Olympos area is more often chosen by independent travelers who value proximity to the ruins, budget lodging, and a livelier evening atmosphere.

Long natural shoreline next to the ruins of an ancient city
The shore at Olympos is suitable for those looking not for a fully equipped urban beach, but for a more natural coastal setting. There is no dense line of large hotels directly by the sea, so a significant part of the coast looks open and less built up. Entry into the water is usually pebbly, with some sandy spots, so many people find beach shoes more comfortable for swimming, especially in areas with large pebbles.
At the beach, visitors usually swim, sunbathe, walk along the long shoreline, and observe the changing landscape from the river mouth to the more open sea sections. The water here is generally clear, and the depth increases relatively quickly. Because of the protected status of part of the coast, the infrastructure is moderate: the main cafes, pensions, and leisure facilities are located not directly on the shoreline, but a little farther away, among trees and small village streets.
Nearby, you can explore the ruins of ancient Olympos, and also drive to the Chimera flames near Cirali. Most often, visitors get here by road from Kemer via the turnoff to Olympos or Cirali, after which the remaining part of the route is covered on foot from the parking area or place of accommodation.
When visiting, it is worth keeping in mind the seasonal rules related to the protection of sea turtles: in certain sections there may be restrictions on lighting, installation of equipment, and staying by the water late in the day. Thanks to this, the beach retains a more natural appearance and remains a place where relaxation is combined with a walk through one of the most famous natural and historical coastal areas near Kemer.
