Kemer - beaches, mountains and a modern Mediterranean resort

Kemer is located on the southern coast of Turkey in the Mediterranean region, at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. The town is about 40-60 km from Antalya and is conveniently located for day trips to Fethiye and Kaş. The scenic blend of sea and mountains makes Kemer a popular destination for both beachgoers and active travelers.

Kemer is known as a seaside resort with clear water, pebble beaches and some sandy stretches of coastline. A large marina and the promenade serve as the starting point for excursion boats and yachts, and the beach areas are suitable for family holidays as well as water-sports enthusiasts.

The town's infrastructure is developed for mass tourism: there are many hotels of all categories, apartments, travel agencies and adventure services. Kemer center and the districts of Kiriş, Beldibi, Tekirova and Çamyuva offer different types of accommodation - from family hotels to boutique camps and luxury complexes.

Historically the area was an important link in coastal trade - nearby are the ruins of the ancient cities Phaselis and Olympos, which add cultural and historical interest to the resort. Modern Kemer grew from fishing settlements and became a resort center in the second half of the 20th century, while retaining the atmosphere of a coastal town.

Besides beach relaxation, Kemer is suitable for mountain walks and cycling routes in the Taurus Mountains, boat trips and day excursions to archaeological sites. Local operators offer diving, snorkeling, sailing, as well as organized trekking and canyon tours.

The climate is Mediterranean - hot, dry summers and mild winters. The best season for beach holidays and boat trips runs from May to October. The nearest major airport is Antalya International Airport, about 50-60 km from Kemer, with transfers and regular bus services available.

Kemer - Phaselis and Mount Tahtalı

The ancient city of Phaselis is located a few kilometers from Kemer and is one of the most impressive archaeological sites on the coast - it preserves three ancient harbors, the ruins of an aqueduct, an amphitheater and sections of the old coastal road. Visiting Phaselis is easily combined with a walk along the coastal trails and swimming in the calm bays around the excavations.

Mount Tahtalı and the cable car that rises to its summit at 2,365 m offer the chance to see panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Taurus Mountains from above. The lift is located in the Tekirova area, and on the top there are viewing platforms and walking routes for photographers and mountain scenery lovers.

Nature lovers often take excursions to Göynük Canyon and Olympos-Beydaglari National Park, where rock descents, walks to waterfalls and trail-running routes are offered. These landscapes appeal both to families for easy walks and to those seeking more extreme activities - canyoning and rock climbing.

Kemer Marina is the central point for sea excursions along the coast - sightseeing trips to secluded bays, fishing and day tours to nearby islands. In the evenings small street fairs and concerts often take place along the waterfront, adding a local festive atmosphere to the town's life.

The local cuisine emphasizes seasonal vegetables, aromatic spices and meze, and coastal areas feature a wide range of fish and seafood dishes. For sightseeing and active excursions, it is best to plan a visit in spring or early autumn when the weather is comfortable for walks and exploring attractions.
