Ancient Bay
Ancient Bay in Kemer, Turkey near ancient Phaselis
Ancient Bay is located on the coast by the ancient city of Phaselis, near Tekirova south of central Kemer. It is part of an archaeological area and natural landscape, where the pine forest comes almost right down to the sea, and swimming can be combined with a walk among ancient ruins.
In antiquity, Phaselis was an important port of Lycia, and several convenient natural bays played a significant role in its development. Today, visitors come here not only for the sea, but also for the clearly visible remains of the ancient city: fragments of streets, public buildings, a theater, an aqueduct, a necropolis, and Roman-era stone sarcophagi have been preserved here.
The shore in this part of the coast is mostly pebbly, the water is usually clear, and the entry into the sea is typical for the Kemer area. Ancient Bay is suitable for a short stop while exploring Phaselis, for a quiet swim, and for relaxing in a calmer setting than on the equipped beaches of the resort area.
The bay is usually visited as part of a trip to Phaselis rather than as a separate beach destination. Before visiting, it is worth checking the opening hours of the archaeological area, entry conditions, and the accessibility of approaches to the shore, as visiting rules and site organization may change.

Ancient Bay and the route through the ruins of Phaselis
Here you can combine swimming with exploring an ancient city.
Pebble shore among the ruins of an ancient port
The stretch of shore here is relatively small and unlike a city beach: the main impression comes from the combination of sea, pine forest, and archaeological landscape. The coast is covered with pebbles, so many people find it more convenient to use water shoes for entering the sea. The water near the shore often remains clear, especially in calm weather.
During a visit, you can alternate between exploring the ruins and relaxing by the sea. Paths run through the territory of Phaselis, passing the remains of the ancient main street, theater, baths, aqueduct, and necropolis, and the bay itself is perceived as a natural part of this route. This place suits those who want to spend a few hours not only on the shore, but also in the archaeological area.
Nearby are other bays of Phaselis and sections of the ancient city, and a little farther away are the resort area of Tekirova and the coastal views of Beydaglari National Park. Infrastructure at the bay itself is limited, so it is best to bring water, a hat, and everything needed for a short rest in advance.
People usually come here via the D400 road, then head to the entrance to the Phaselis area from the Tekirova side. After entering, visitors walk to the bay through the archaeological zone.
