Oludeniz Beach

Oludeniz Beach in Fethiye, Turkey

Oludeniz Beach is located on the coast south of central Fethiye, in a well-known resort area at the foot of Mount Babadag. The name Oludeniz is translated from Turkish as "dead sea" in the sense of "calm water." It is associated with the local lagoon: thanks to the sheltered bay and the narrow opening to the open sea, the water here often remains calmer than on neighboring stretches of coast.

This is one of the most famous beaches in the Fethiye area. The coast attracts visitors with its clear water, mountain views, and the combination of an open beach with a lagoon, where conditions are usually suitable for calm swimming. The place is interesting both for those who come simply for the sea and for those who want to see one of the region's most recognizable coastal spots.

The surroundings of Oludeniz are especially known for paragliding. Flights usually begin from Mount Babadag, about 1,900 meters high, and the beach itself often serves as a landing area, so here you can not only swim but also watch paragliders above the bay. This combination of seaside relaxation and active sport has made Oludeniz a notable point on the map of the Fethiye area.

Along the resort area there are cafes, shops, rental points, and other everyday services for holidaymakers. Thanks to this, the beach is convenient both for a short trip from Fethiye and for a longer stay on the coast.

The coastline of Oludeniz combines an open sea beach with a more sheltered lagoon. In different parts of the coast, both sand and pebbles can be found, and the water usually remains clear, especially in calm weather. The lagoon is more often chosen for swimming and relaxing by the water, while the open section gives a stronger sense of the sea's expanse.

At the beach, you can swim, sunbathe, snorkel near the shore, and watch paragliders descending from Babadag toward the coast. In the resort area next to the beach, sunbeds, umbrellas, cafes, shops, and basic tourist services are usually available. It can be crowded here in season, so for a calmer atmosphere it is better to come in the morning.

Nearby are the lagoon nature park, Mount Babadag with its paragliding launch sites, and the Lycian Way, which is used for hiking routes along the coast. From central Fethiye, Oludeniz is usually reached by dolmus, taxi, or car.
