Oludeniz Beach
Oludeniz Beach in Fethiye, Turkey
Oludeniz Beach is located south of the center of Fethiye, near the resort areas of Oludeniz and Ovacik, on a stretch of coast that opens onto one of the most famous bays in the region. The main feature of the place is the Blue Lagoon, separated from the open sea by a narrow strip of sand and pebbles. Thanks to this shape of the shore, you can choose either calmer water in the lagoon or the open part of the beach with a breeze and light waves.
The coast is known for its clear water and the noticeable transition of shades from light turquoise near the shore to a deeper blue farther from land. The beach surface is mixed: there are areas with small pebbles and sand, and entry into the sea is quite convenient in many places, although beach shoes may be useful. The surrounding mountains protect the bay from some of the wind and create the recognizable view usually associated with Oludeniz.
The beach area is closely connected with paragliding flights from Babadag Mountain. Paragliders are often visible above the shore and the lagoon, especially in clear weather, and this has become one of the characteristic features of the local landscape. The beach itself is interesting not only for swimming: people come here for walks along the water, short breaks between trips along the coast, and to observe the bay from different points.
Oludeniz is convenient for tourists staying in Fethiye, Ovacik, or nearby resort villages. Around the beach area there are cafes, shops, rental points, and services for water recreation. In high season it is especially crowded during the day, so the calmer time to visit is in the morning and late afternoon.

A lagoon with calm water and an open shore in one bay
The shore in Oludeniz is conventionally divided into two parts with different character. On the lagoon side, the water is usually calmer and suitable for relaxed swimming, while on the outer side of the beach you can feel the open sea, so wind and water movement are more noticeable there. This combination is convenient for those who want to choose conditions depending on the weather and time of day.
At the beach you can swim, sunbathe, rent sun loungers, and use the infrastructure along the promenade. Water activities are also offered in the bay area, and watching paragliders land has become a separate part of the visit for many people. If you go higher up the slopes or choose a viewpoint in the surroundings, the bay can be clearly seen in full, including the spit and the lagoon.
Nearby are the cable car and launch sites on Babadag Mountain, as well as the Lycian Way and Kidrak Beach, which some people visit for a calmer atmosphere. The Oludeniz area itself is built up with tourist infrastructure, so nearby there are places to grab a bite, shops with beach goods, and local transport stops.
The beach is usually reached by dolmus or taxi from the center of Fethiye; the road passes through Ovacik and takes little time. In the height of the season, it is more convenient to arrive earlier to avoid the heaviest flow of visitors and find a place by the water more easily.
