Allakuli Khan Tim and Caravanserai are located in Ichan Kala, the historic center of Khiva, near the Palvan Darvoza Gate. Today it is perceived as a single architectural space, although originally the caravanserai and the covered market served different functions.
The caravanserai was built during the reign of Allakuli Khan, when Khiva remained an important hub on regional trade routes. Merchants stopped here, stored goods, and made deals. Later, a tim - a covered market with domed ceilings - was added to the facade, providing more convenient conditions for trade in the heat and in bad weather.
