The Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasa is located in the historic center of Khiva, inside the fortress walls of Ichan Kala, opposite Kunya Ark. It is one of the largest madrasas in the city and a prominent architectural monument of the Khiva Khanate of the 19th century. It is often included in routes through old Khiva thanks to its convenient location and striking appearance.
The building was constructed in the middle of the 19th century and was intended for religious education. Today, the building has been adapted into a hotel, although its historical appearance has generally been preserved, and it remains an important part of the architectural ensemble of Ichan Kala, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The site is usually reached on foot from the main gates of old Khiva, as the main routes inside the fortress run along pedestrian streets.
