Sile Lighthouse
Sile Lighthouse in Istanbul, Turkey
Sile Lighthouse is located on the Black Sea coast in the Sile district, on the northeastern outskirts of Istanbul. It is one of the most recognizable lighthouses in Turkey and an important point of coastal navigation along a stretch of open sea, rocky shores, and changeable weather.
The lighthouse was built in the 19th century, during the Ottoman period, and still retains its main function. Its tall tower and location on an elevated cape make the structure visible from afar. Because of this, the lighthouse is perceived not only as a technical facility but also as part of the historic character of Sile.
For tourists, this place is interesting for its combination of seascape and architecture. From the viewpoints near the lighthouse, there are views of the Black Sea, coastal cliffs, and breakwaters. People often come here during walks along the waterfront and trips to the beaches of Sile.
A visit to the lighthouse can easily be combined with exploring the coastal part of the district, the fishing harbor, and the central streets of Sile with cafés and small shops. It is a peaceful stop for those who want to see a different side of Istanbul - not urban neighborhoods, but the northern sea coast.

Sile Lighthouse and the coastal part of the district
Here you can see the sea, the rocks, and the shoreline of Sile.
A tall tower on the rocky shore of the Black Sea
The main reason people come here is the coastal panorama. The lighthouse stands on an open stretch of shore where the line of the sea, rocky ledges, and the movement of ships are clearly visible. The difference between calm weather and a windy day is especially noticeable, making it clear why a navigational landmark is so important here.
The tower itself is usually viewed from the outside: its proportions, light-colored finish, and position above the steep shore draw attention. The surrounding area is suitable for a short walk and photography, and nearby you can reach sections of the coast from which the lighthouse can be seen as part of the overall seascape, not only up close.
Nearby are the Sile waterfront, beaches, a small port, and Sile Castle, so the trip can easily be complemented by a walk through the coastal part of the district. From Istanbul, people usually get here by car or bus toward Sile, after which the lighthouse is conveniently reached on foot from the district center.
